Saudi Artists Paint the Largest Mural in the World

Saudi Artists Create One of the World's Largest Murals in Riyadh

Saudi Arabia continues to invest heavily in culture, public art, and creative industries as part of its long-term national development strategy. Alongside large-scale festivals, heritage projects, and entertainment events, public artworks have become an increasingly important feature of the Kingdom's urban landscape.

One remarkable example is the giant mural of King Abdulaziz, created by Saudi artist Mohammed Al Amar in Riyadh.

A Landmark Public Artwork

According to Arab News, Mohammed Al Amar completed a massive portrait of King Abdulaziz, the founder of modern Saudi Arabia, on a tower located along King Fahd Road in Riyadh.

The mural has been recognized by Guinness World Records as one of the largest murals ever created and is expected to receive official recognition.

Fifty Days of Artistic Work

The project required approximately 50 days of continuous work.

To ensure long-term durability under Saudi Arabia's harsh climate, the artist used specialized hot spray painting techniques capable of resisting wind, heat, and other environmental conditions.

Because the mural depicts one of the Kingdom's most respected historical figures, the project demanded exceptional precision, planning, and artistic responsibility.

Public Art as Part of Urban Development

Large public artworks are becoming increasingly common throughout Saudi Arabia.

Rather than serving only decorative purposes, they contribute to:

  • cultural identity

  • urban regeneration

  • tourism development

  • public engagement

  • international cultural exchange

Projects such as this mural demonstrate how cities can integrate art into everyday public spaces while celebrating national history and heritage.

Supporting Saudi Vision 2030

Public art has become an important component of Saudi Vision 2030, which encourages investment in culture, tourism, entertainment, and creative industries.

Alongside landmark developments such as Diriyah: Saudi Arabia's Historic City Opens a New Chapter for Cultural Tourism and Events and Noor Riyadh 2022: Inspiring the Future of Large-Scale Event Engineering in Saudi Arabia, public artworks help shape Saudi Arabia's evolving cultural landscape and strengthen its international profile.

Dragon Stage and the KSA Event Solution Series

As part of our KSA Event Solution series, Dragon Stage follows representative cultural, entertainment, and public art projects across Saudi Arabia.

Understanding the Kingdom's cultural transformation helps event organizers, designers, and engineering companies better appreciate the growing demand for creative public spaces, cultural festivals, and world-class event infrastructure.

Conclusion

The creation of one of the world's largest murals demonstrates Saudi Arabia's growing commitment to public art and cultural expression.

As cities across the Kingdom continue to evolve, projects like this contribute to stronger cultural identity while supporting broader goals in tourism, urban development, and international cultural engagement.
