Aluminum truss does not normally follow an electroplating route before powder coating in our current production process because the structure design of aluminum truss creates practical challenges during liquid-based treatment.
Most aluminum truss components are manufactured from hollow aluminum tubes with welded connections. During electroplating, the component needs to be immersed in treatment liquid. For hollow structures, especially welded tube assemblies, removing and completely drying the remaining liquid inside the structure can become difficult.
According to the production experience explained by our coating technicians, liquid remaining inside hollow tubes or welded areas may affect the consistency of the following coating process if it cannot be completely removed.
To apply electroplating to this type of structure, additional design modifications may be required, such as adding drainage holes to individual tube sections. However, this would introduce additional manufacturing steps and change the original component structure.
Therefore, for the aluminum truss components currently processed by our workshop, powder coating is selected as the more suitable surface-finishing method.
The choice of surface treatment depends on:
base material;
component structure;
hollow or closed sections;
welding design;
and the requirements of the final finish.

Hollow aluminum tubes create additional challenges for liquid-based surface treatment because the internal space can make drainage and drying more difficult.
Unlike flat or open components, hollow tubes have internal areas that may retain treatment liquid after immersion.
For aluminum truss structures, this situation becomes more complicated because the tubes are usually connected through welding. Welded areas may contain irregular spaces where liquid can remain trapped.
If the internal areas cannot be completely drained and dried, the following coating process may become more difficult to control.
This is why manufacturers need to consider the complete relationship between:
material;
tube design;
welding method;
and surface-treatment process.
The surface treatment method should match the actual structure being manufactured.
The relationship between component design, connection methods and material selection is discussed further in:

Ringlock diagonal braces have similar considerations because of their special component shape.
A Ringlock diagonal brace normally consists of a steel tube with flattened sections at both ends for connection.
Compared with a simple open steel tube, these flattened connection areas create a more complicated structure.
According to the practical explanation from our production technicians, liquid-based treatment processes may face similar challenges in these areas because:
the flattened ends create irregular geometry;
liquid may enter certain areas during treatment;
complete drainage and drying can become more difficult.
Therefore, when selecting a surface-treatment route, manufacturers need to consider not only the material itself but also the actual component design.
A standard steel tube, a Ringlock standard, and a flattened diagonal brace are all steel products, but their manufacturing conditions are different.
The Ringlock system contains many different components and connection details. More information can be found here:

The relationship between connection design and manufacturing considerations is also discussed in:

Ringlock components often contain different parts assembled together, including:
steel tubes;
connectors;
screws;
and other small accessories.
Before sandblasting, some attached parts need to be removed so that the main steel components can receive a more consistent surface-preparation process.
The main reasons are:
Sandblasting requires direct contact between the abrasive media and the steel surface.
If small accessories remain attached, they may block certain areas and create untreated or uneven areas.
Different parts may have different functions and surface requirements.
Separating them before sandblasting allows each component to be processed more appropriately.
Ringlock systems depend on accurate connections between components.
Removing small parts before surface preparation helps avoid unnecessary treatment on areas where precise assembly is required.
The purpose of disassembly is not simply preparation for appearance.
It is part of controlling the manufacturing sequence before the following coating process.

Surface treatment is not only a finishing choice.
It is connected with:
material selection;
component shape;
welding method;
connection design;
and production sequence.
A finished powder-coated component represents the final visible result, but the decisions made before coating determine how that finish can be applied consistently.
This is why manufacturers need to evaluate the complete product structure before selecting a surface-treatment method.
No. Although both products can receive powder coating, the preparation process depends on the base material and component design. The current aluminum and steel processes documented by our workshop follow different routes.
Not necessarily. A surface-treatment method must match the material, structure and production conditions. A process with more steps is not automatically more suitable.
No. The absence of electroplating does not indicate lower quality. The suitable surface-treatment method depends on the product structure and manufacturing requirements.
Because structures with hollow sections, welded joints, flattened ends or complex connection areas may create different requirements for cleaning, drainage, drying and coating.
