Unexpected Discovery: A Gantry System We Built in 2010 Is Still Working After 16 Years

At Dragon Stage, we often focus on new projects, new designs, and new customer requirements. But sometimes, the most meaningful stories come from the past.

Recently, while visiting an LED screen factory for a routine inspection, we noticed something familiar in the workshop.

At first glance, it looked like an ordinary aluminum gantry system that had been in service for many years. The aluminum surface showed signs of natural oxidation, and the chain hoists had already been replaced due to rust and wear.

Then one of the technicians casually mentioned:

"We bought this gantry from your company around 2010."

That unexpected comment immediately caught our attention.

Sixteen Years of Continuous Service

After checking the details, we realized that this gantry system had been purchased approximately sixteen years ago and had remained in daily use ever since.

Although some accessories had been replaced over the years, the aluminum truss structure itself was still performing its intended function reliably.

The frame had aged naturally, but it remained stable and structurally sound.

For us, this was a pleasant surprise.

Because sometimes, even manufacturers forget how many projects have been completed over the years. Seeing equipment we built more than a decade ago still quietly doing its job is a special feeling.

Why Aluminum Truss Systems Can Last for Decades

Unlike steel structures that may suffer from severe corrosion, aluminum truss systems develop a natural oxide layer that helps protect the material.

Under proper loading conditions and with regular inspections, the service life of an aluminum truss can be remarkably long.

In many industries, what eventually requires replacement is not the truss itself, but components such as:

  • Chain hoists

  • Wheels and casters

  • Connectors and pins

  • Accessories subjected to wear

  • Electrical equipment

The primary aluminum structure often remains serviceable for many years.

Proper Maintenance Makes the Difference

Long service life is not only determined by manufacturing quality.

It also depends on how equipment is used and maintained.

In this case, the customer had obviously taken good care of the system throughout the years. Their attention to maintenance contributed greatly to its longevity.

Good engineering and responsible operation always work together.

More Than Equipment

As manufacturers, we are proud of every new project we deliver.

But discovering a structure built sixteen years ago still in operation reminds us that our work is not only about producing equipment.

It is about building tools that support people, businesses, and projects for many years.

Technology changes.

Projects come and go.

But every now and then, we unexpectedly meet something we built long ago, still quietly doing its job.

And perhaps, that is one of the greatest compliments a manufacturer can receive.
