  • Dragon Stage

The DragonStage Channel Tent is a compact event tent developed for one very specific backstage requirement:

providing a covered passage from the preparation area to the main stage.

In many large concert projects, the main stage and backstage areas are surrounded by Ringlock structures. However, the route between the preparation area and the performance stage still needs to remain open for performers and technical staff.

Instead of continuing to fill this area with Ringlock components, a section of the structure can be intentionally left open.

A 4m wide × 6m deep Channel Tent is then positioned inside this opening.

The result is a simple circulation route:

Backstage / Preparation Area → Channel Tent → Main Stage

The tent provides roof protection and optional side enclosure while allowing people to move directly between the backstage area and the stage.

Modified from an Existing 4x9m Aluminum Tent

This Channel Tent was not developed by creating a completely new tent system.

DragonStage already manufactures a 4m × 9m Aluminum A-Frame Tent with Full Sidewalls:

4x9m Aluminum A-Frame Tent with Full Sidewalls

For this backstage application, the same basic tent concept can be modified from approximately 9m deep to 6m deep, allowing it to fit into the reserved passage within the larger event structure.

This is a practical way of handling customized event requirements.

The customer does not always need a completely new structure. Sometimes an existing product can simply be resized and adapted to a new application.

Customers looking for other temporary tent configurations can also see our Portable Tent products.

Designed to Fit Inside a Ringlock Event Structure

The Channel Tent is particularly useful when the surrounding stage or backstage system uses a modular Ringlock Structure System.

The idea is straightforward.

The Ringlock structure leaves a clear opening instead of placing standards, ledgers and braces through the circulation area.

The tent is installed inside that reserved space.

The Ringlock structure and Channel Tent remain two separate systems, but they are used together within the same event layout.

This also means the surrounding Ringlock structure is not automatically included when ordering the Channel Tent unless it is specifically listed in the quotation.

Why Use a Channel Tent?

The distance between backstage and the main stage may only be several meters, but leaving this route completely exposed can still cause practical problems during an outdoor production.

Rain Protection

The covered passage helps reduce direct exposure to rain when performers and staff move between backstage and the stage.

This can also be useful when moving:

  • Costumes

  • Musical instruments

  • Equipment cases

  • Electronic equipment

  • Props

  • Other event materials

Backstage Privacy

Sidewalls can help prevent the audience from directly seeing performers waiting or moving behind the main stage.

This is particularly useful for concerts, ceremonies and shows where backstage movement should remain separate from the audience view.

Defined Performer Route

Instead of allowing performers and crew to walk randomly through the surrounding scaffold structure, the tent creates a clearly recognizable passage between the two working areas.

Separation from Technical Areas

Large event structures often contain cables, temporary equipment, structural components and technical working zones.

A dedicated covered channel can provide a simpler route through this environment.

Aluminum A-Frame Tent Construction

The Channel Tent uses the same basic aluminum A-frame concept as DragonStage temporary event tents.

The pitched roof creates a simple covered corridor without requiring the entire passage to be constructed from scaffold and custom roof members.

Typical components may include:

  • Aluminum tent frame

  • A-frame roof members

  • Roof covering

  • Sidewalls

  • Connection components

  • Ground fixing or related accessories according to the final configuration

For other event tent configurations, see our Typical Tent products.

Sidewall and Enclosure Options

The Channel Tent does not have to use exactly the same enclosure arrangement for every project.

Possible configurations include:

  • Roof only

  • Roof + one sidewall

  • Roof + two sidewalls

  • Mostly enclosed passage

  • Open front and rear

  • Customized openings connecting directly with backstage and stage areas

For a backstage channel, two sidewalls are often useful when the customer wants both rain protection and visual separation.

The exact enclosure should be confirmed according to the actual stage layout.

Typical Applications

The Channel Tent can be used for:

  • Concert backstage access

  • Festival backstage passages

  • Artist preparation areas

  • Performer entrance routes

  • Stage-side covered corridors

  • Technical staff passages

  • Costume and equipment movement

  • Temporary covered access between event structures

For broader concert and stage-system applications, see our Concert Event page.

A Simple Product for a Specific Site Problem

The value of a Channel Tent is not that it is structurally complicated.

The useful part is that it solves a very specific event-layout problem without making the surrounding structure unnecessarily complicated.

A project may already contain:

Main Stage + Backstage Area + Ringlock Side Structure

but still have an exposed gap between the two.

Instead of building another special scaffold roof over that gap, an existing aluminum tent can be shortened and placed inside the opening.

In this case:

4m × 9m standard tent concept → modified to approximately 4m × 6m → used as backstage Channel Tent

This makes the product easier to understand, manufacture and replace than treating every backstage passage as a completely new structural system.

Custom Manufacturing

The 4m × 6m × approximately 3m configuration represents this particular Channel Tent requirement.

DragonStage can customize:

  • Tent width

  • Tent length

  • Overall height

  • A-frame roof dimensions

  • Roof covering

  • Number of sidewalls

  • Entrance position

  • Exit position

  • Wall openings

  • Cover color

  • Integration dimensions with existing structures

If the customer already has a stage or Ringlock layout, it is useful to provide the clear opening dimensions where the Channel Tent will be installed.

DragonStage can then determine whether an existing tent product can be modified to fit.

What Information Is Needed for Quotation?

For a similar Channel Tent, please provide:

  • Required clear width

  • Required passage length

  • Required height

  • Existing Ringlock opening dimensions

  • Main stage position

  • Backstage position

  • Whether sidewalls are required

  • Whether the front or rear needs closing

  • Indoor or outdoor use

  • Installation location

  • Required quantity

  • Existing layout drawing or reference image

A simple stage layout showing where the channel sits between backstage and the main stage is usually more useful than providing the tent dimensions alone.

Important Technical Note

The Channel Tent described here is a temporary covered backstage passage.

This product description does not establish:

  • Wind resistance

  • Ballast requirements

  • Anchoring requirements

  • Fire classification of the covering

  • Emergency-exit compliance

  • Crowd-access compliance

  • Structural certification

  • Engineering approval

If these requirements apply to a particular project, they must be confirmed separately according to the installation location and intended use.
