2023 IMHAN Changsha: Large-Scale Stage Machinery and Intelligent Motion Systems
Modern entertainment venues are increasingly integrating architectural structures, intelligent stage machinery, and digital media into a unified performance environment. Rather than relying on static lighting installations, today's premium clubs use programmable motion systems to transform the venue itself into part of the show.
The 2023 IMHAN Changsha project is an outstanding example of this engineering approach, combining multiple synchronized lifting systems, rotating mechanisms, transparent LED displays, and a large movable dome to create an immersive entertainment experience.
Located in Changsha, the IMHAN project features a performance space with a ceiling height of more than 10 meters, allowing the installation of multiple intelligent mechanical systems above the audience area.
Instead of functioning as independent devices, every lifting structure, lighting frame, transparent LED screen, and stage platform works together through synchronized motion control.
Opening Dome Structure
One of the project's most distinctive engineering features is its opening dome mechanism.
The dome transforms the venue from an enclosed nightclub into a large-scale concert environment by opening during performances.
Its centerpiece consists of a massive gateway combined with a signature five-ring structure, creating dramatic visual transitions throughout the show.
Unlike decorative ceiling elements, the dome itself becomes an active part of the performance.
Multi-Level Swing and Lifting Systems
The five-ring structure incorporates multiple independently controlled motion systems.
These include:
three-point swing lifting systems
four-point swing lifting systems
customized lighting frames
spacecraft-shaped lifting DJ platform
Each structure can move independently or together according to different performance programs.
This synchronized movement allows lighting, stage machinery, and digital media to create continuously changing visual environments.
Another impressive feature of the project is the giant flip-screen system integrated into the dome.
The structure includes:
four large overturning mechanisms
multiple transparent LED screens
synchronized lifting and movement
multi-motor coordinated control
Each large screen measures approximately 11.1 m × 7.5 m, while the smaller transparent displays measure approximately 8 m × 1 m.
Individual screens weigh approximately 3.5 tons, requiring multiple lifting and drive motors to achieve stable and synchronized movement.
This level of engineering requires accurate structural calculations, customized support systems, and sophisticated motion control.
Large Transparent LED Display Integration
Below the opening dome, the venue incorporates a 26-meter-long and 12-meter-high oval transparent LED display system.
Unlike conventional fixed LED walls, transparent displays allow lighting, stage machinery, and architectural elements to remain visible while presenting dynamic digital content.
The combination of moving structures and transparent displays creates layered visual effects that continuously transform the performance environment.
