Product Information

Product Description

The DragonStage 9.82x3.23m Switchback Modular Aluminum Stage Ramp provides a continuous inclined access route between ground level and an elevated temporary event stage.

Instead of extending the complete ramp in one direction, the structure uses two parallel ramp runs connected by an intermediate turning landing. The user travels along one ramp section, turns at the landing, and continues in the opposite direction.

The overall footprint shown in the drawing is approximately:

32 ft 2⅝ in × 10 ft 7¼ in
9.82m × 3.23m

This layout is especially useful when the event site is relatively narrow and does not have enough space for a long straight or wide L-shaped access ramp.

The ramp surface uses standard 4 × 4 ft / 1.22 × 1.22m modular deck sections, allowing the complete structure to be transported, assembled, stored, replaced, and reconfigured in individual modules.

For other modular ramp configurations, see Typical Aluminum Ramp.

For matching temporary stages, see Stage Platform.

Designed for Wheelchair and Event Equipment Access

This ramp is suitable for projects that need something more practical than stairs alone.

For personnel access, it can provide an inclined route for:

• wheelchair users

• performers

• speakers

• event staff

• production crews

For equipment movement, it can be used for suitable wheeled items such as:

• concert flight cases

• lighting equipment cases

• audio equipment carts

• cable cases

• production trolleys

• other wheeled event equipment

The required equipment weight and ramp load should be confirmed before the final support configuration is manufactured.

Switchback Layout with Turning Landing

The defining feature of this product is its U-shaped / switchback configuration.

The layout consists of:

• first inclined ramp run

• intermediate turning landing

• second parallel ramp run

• lower entry area

• upper stage connection area

• continuous guardrails

The access route effectively folds back alongside itself.

This gives the ramp a long usable route while keeping the overall site width to approximately 3.23m.

Why a Switchback Ramp Works Well Behind or Beside a Concert Stage

Concert and event sites often have limited space because the surrounding area may already contain:

• sound equipment

• LED structures

• lighting cases

• backstage tents

• barriers

• cable routes

• performers and technicians

A switchback ramp can be positioned along the side or rear of the stage without requiring a large open area directly in front of the audience.

This makes it particularly practical as a concert equipment loading ramp or backstage access route.

Standard 4 × 4 ft Modular Ramp Decks

Each standard deck module measures:

4 × 4 ft / approximately 1.22 × 1.22m

The repeated modular size can be used for:

• inclined ramp sections

• intermediate landings

• transition areas

• stage connection areas

This common-module approach helps simplify:

• packing

• transportation

• storage

• installation

• replacement

• future expansion

The final number of ramp decks and support components depends on the actual stage height and confirmed configuration.

Dual-Side Guardrails

Guardrails are installed along both sides of the complete access route.

Confirmed guardrail height:

3.28 ft / 1.0m

The guardrails continue along the inclined sections and turning areas to provide a clearly defined route for personnel and equipment.

Compact Footprint for a Long Access Route

The main advantage of this configuration is its relatively narrow footprint.

The complete structure occupies approximately:

9.82m long × 3.23m wide

while using two parallel ramp runs.

Compared with a 90-degree L-shaped ramp, the switchback design requires less lateral site space and is therefore easier to position beside a stage, building, backstage area, or production zone.

Why Use a Ramp Instead of Stairs for Event Equipment?

Stairs are useful for people but inconvenient for wheeled production equipment.

A continuous ramp allows suitable equipment to remain on wheels while being moved between ground level and the stage.

This can be particularly useful for:

• flight cases

• lighting equipment

• audio accessories

• cables

• control equipment

• smaller production hardware

The actual allowable equipment weight should be confirmed according to the final ramp structure.

Modular Aluminum Structure

The complete ramp is assembled as a temporary modular structure rather than one permanently welded unit.

This gives event companies practical flexibility for:

• transportation

• compact storage

• repeated setup

• replacement of individual parts

• changing stage layouts

• different platform heights

• future extension or reduction

For other related access components, see Stage Accessories.

How to Confirm the Correct Ramp Configuration

Before production, please provide:

• finished stage height

• available ground length

• available ground width

• preferred ramp entrance position

• stage connection position

• main use: wheelchair access, equipment loading, or both

• equipment type

• required load

These details allow DragonStage to finalize the ramp slope, deck quantities, support heights, landing arrangement, and connection configuration.

Important Product Note

The confirmed product configuration includes:

• overall size: 386⅝ in × 127¼ in

• metric size: approximately 9.82 × 3.23m

• standard deck: 4 × 4 ft / 1.22 × 1.22m

• switchback / U-shaped layout

• two parallel ramp runs

• intermediate turning landing

• aluminum support structure

• guardrails on both sides

• guardrail height: 1m / 3.28ft

The final stage height, ramp slope, allowable load, support arrangement, and connection details should be confirmed according to the actual project.

FAQ

What is the overall size of this ramp?
The overall footprint is approximately 386⅝ in × 127¼ in, equal to approximately 32 ft 2⅝ in × 10 ft 7¼ in, or about 9.82m × 3.23m.

What type of ramp is this?
It is a switchback / U-shaped modular stage ramp with two parallel ramp runs and a turning landing.

What size is each standard ramp panel?
Each standard ramp deck is 4 × 4 ft / approximately 1.22 × 1.22m.

How high are the guardrails?
The confirmed guardrail height is 1m / approximately 3.28ft.

Are guardrails installed on both sides?
Yes. Guardrails are installed along both sides of the ramp route.

Can this ramp be used for wheelchair access?
Yes. The continuous inclined layout can be configured for wheelchair stage access according to the final stage height and ramp configuration.

Can concert equipment be moved on this ramp?
Yes. It can be configured for suitable wheeled concert equipment such as flight cases, carts, and production equipment.

Yes. The ramp can be supplied together with a complete Stage Platform system.

Why Choose DragonStage

DragonStage supplies complete stage systems together with modular ramps, stairs, guardrails, and other event-access accessories.

For equipment-loading ramps, we do not only consider the overall outside dimensions. The stage height, equipment type, required load, available site width, and access direction all affect the final configuration.
